Land Trust Acquires Hidden Brook Preserve

The Bethany Land Trust has acquired 36.1 acres of open space from the Giovanelly Family Trust and other family members. Located at 89 Russell Road in the southern part of Bethany, Hidden Brook Preserve includes approximately 8 acres of a mix of woodland and rocky outcrops encircling approximately 28 acres of rich woody marsh, which protects songbirds, wild flowers, and other wildlife.  This property borders the Town of Bethany’s 74-acre Carrington Preserve (managed by the Bethany Land Trust) and is close to the Land Trust’s 47-acre Whispering Pines Preserve. A series of trails and easements connect those parcels with trails in the Land Trust’s Bethany Farms system.

Irene Stahl Donates Whispering Pines, 49 Acres

Because she believed in our ability to preserve and protect open space, Irene Stahl of Bethany donated Whispering Pines, 49 acres of heaven in Bethany that she and her late husband, Carl, lovingly managed. She has entrusted the Bethany Land Trust to preserve the home of the wild things that live there and to invite all of us to enjoy a walk in the woods. Our trail crew has been very busy blazing trails, marking boundaries and building a bridge over Bladen’s Brook.  Trails now connect Whispering Pines with the town's Carrington Preserve and the Land Trust's Bethany Farms trail system. The Whispering Pines trailhead is at 30 Briar Road. We invite you to take a walk in the woods of Whispering Pines whenever you like. A trails map has been posted to the Land Trust website.
