Bethany History Hike – Sunday, August 11, 9 – 11 AM
The next in our series of monthly, guided hikes through some of our properties will be the Bethany History Hike in collaboration with the Bethany Historical Society. With Will Brinton, Town Historian, as our guide, we will be walking through the Land Trust’s Three Sisters Preserve starting at 9AM on Sunday August 11. Note, the date and time are different than previously posted.

The land of the Three Sisters Preserve and surrounding area has some pretty remarkable historical significance for both indigenous people and those who followed. Will plans to spend time exploring the mill foundations along Beacon Hill Brook and talking about the nearby village of Straitsville, which was once part of Bethany. He will also discuss the colorful history of the Three Sisters area, which is the common boundary of Bethany, Naugatuck and Prospect.
After crossing the newly rebuilt bridge across Beacon Hill Brook, the hike will follow a relatively flat 0.5 mile loop trail through the lower portion of the Preserve. As part of hike, there will be an opportunity to hike the trail to the top of the steep Three Sisters ravine, with an elevation gain of almost 300 feet, to the historical marker at the Bethany-Naugatuck-Prospect border. For those who choose not to climb up the ravine, a Land Trust volunteer will bring you via the loop trail back to the parking area.
