The Naugatuck State Forest has almost 5,000 acres of wild, undeveloped woodlands, grasslands, rivers, lakes, ravines, and swamp in the scenic Naugatuck River valley. Trails in the East Block of the forest that includes Bethany connect with trails in the Van Epps Preserve. The Naugatuck Trail is one of the Blue-Blazed Hiking Trails manged by Connecticut Forest & Park Association to better connect people to the land. Established in 1929, the Blue-Blazed Hiking Trail System now includes over 825 miles of trails that pass through 96 towns traversing both public and private lands.
