Last week one crew continued the sisyphean task at the Woodward Preserve, adding even bigger, better boulders to the barrier to obstruct not just quads but dirt bikes as well. It seems to have worked as we have already witnessed one dirt biker turning back. There is a small opening for people and dogs, who have continued to cross there, but no motorized vehicles! (At least in the past week…)
Another crew cleared the area at the Niederman Sizer field where the plaque and bench honoring BLT founding member Stephen Collins is placed while the bench undergoes restoration.
This week, 3 different projects:
Don’t put away those come-alongs and digging bars yet! We are going to try to erect a similar barrier at Simpson Preserve just short of the stream crossing. For this, meet at the end of Northrup Road at 9 AM.
Secondly, Bart has finished restoring the bench at Niederman-Sizer Field and needs two volunteers to help lay a wood chip-covered ground barrier in the bench area to suppress weeds. Let me know if you would like to volunteer for this. It shouldn’t take more than an hour. The Niederman-Sizer Field address is 406 Sperry.
Thirdly, it is time to renew our efforts to suppress invasives at Simpson; meet at the end of Northrup Road with the boulder crew for this.
