November 5th

Now that it has been replaced with a new bench, last week we carried the old bench out from the bird stand at Mendell’s Folly and Bart will recondition it for use at another location with a great sunset view.  We also cleared leaves from Mendell’s Folly trails and Van Epps in preparation for the Owl Prowl and addressed an area of Tibby’s Trail that needed widening.

This week we are going to work at the other end of town throughout Whispering Pines, Carrington Preserve and Hidden Brook.  There are trees down across trails, trail blazes needed in a few spots and ATV damage to address in addition to clearing the trails of leaves and going after barberry incursions.

Trees down:  At the Bethany Farms Road cul de sac heading to Carrington; at Whispering Pines near the gate off Village Lane; and midway up the Falling Water trail.

Blazing needed:  intersection of blue trail on Carrington and the trail to Whispering Pines (tree with blazes on it came down); and at Hidden Brook where ATV damage has created a confusing area.

Leaf blowing:  all trails

Invasive removal: area on Whispering Pines towards Irene Stahl’s former home.

We will meet at the end of Village Lane, 9 AM Wednesday and disperse from there.
