July 9th

Last week we completely cut in the new trail at Simpson Preserve that goes from Lebanon Road to Veteran’s Park.  Part of it follows the old ski tow that was built in the 1930’s, and interesting artifacts. such as stanchions and the straight 8 engine are still there.

This week Ali and Grace will be clearing the trail at Whispering Pines from Briar Road in preparation for the Bioblitz this Sunday. They will be there from 8 AM to 9:30 on Wednesday and could also use someone with a chainsaw to cut up 2 small trees across the trail.  The entrance is at 12 Briar Road.

Instead of breaking up into smaller crews the rest of us are going to Three Sisters to prepare for the Geology Hike on August 3.  The lower loop needs weed whacking and leaf blowing, but we also need to cut in a trail up to the cliffs.  This is a steep and rocky area and everything will be needed:  stone moving tools, chainsaws, rakes, leaf blowers etc.  For this we will meet at 9 on Wednesday at 1154 Amity Road.  You can park on the far side off the road.
